Limes are citrus fruits believed to have originated in Southeast Asia in the 10th century where they were transported by Arab traders to Spain three centuries later.

There are two main lime varieties, Tahitian and Key. Less commonly known are the former egg-shaped Persian limes and the smaller, seedless Bearss.
