Believed to have first been cultivated by the Romans, parsnip is a root vegetable that is a member of the Apaiaceae family, which also includes the carrot dill, cumin, parsley and caraway.


Parsnips closely resemble the shape of carrots, except that parsnips have yellow to brown colour and have a distinct sweet flavour.
