Native to South America, the ximenia (also known as the sour plum) is a member of the Olacaceae (Ximeniaceae Family).


The ximenia tree is a semi-deciduous small tree typically around 6 meters in height with a blue to green appearance and branches which are purple to red in colour.


The ximenia leaves are leathery and blooms flowers which are yellow, green pink or white in colour that produce the Ximenia fruit. The fruit is an inch long turning yellow to orange once ripe and consists of a sour taste with a dry aftertaste.
